Leadership

Novusolutions operates two offices in Florida that serve the United States and Canada. Our South Florida office is located in Weston, FL and houses our sales and marketing team. Our Tampa, FL office houses our development, project management and support staff.

Operations

The Novusolutions Leadership Team consists of Jay Vickers, John Kercher, Byron Gillin, and Chris Herring. These four individuals previously worked together as managers and trainers at Productivity Point International, a company dedicated to training people on how to use the latest software. It was there they recognized a need for software efficiencies in the government and education sectors, and formed Novusolutions.

In addition to the Leadership Team, all of the key members on staff have been with Novusolutions since the company was founded in 2000. The lead software developers have been involved with our products since their inception on a whiteboard and through all of the subsequent releases. This level of stability is one of our greatest assets, and since our staff writes our software, visits our customers, and answers support calls, it is extremely important that our employees remain challenged and content.

The Novusolutions Leadership Team and staff take a lot of pride in the affordability of our products and services. We understand affordability means availability to our marketplace.  To support this goal, our team works very hard to analyze which features and services will benefit our customers the most.  We focus our attention only on areas where an investment of our resources will provide a significant return for our customers.  This philosophy enables us to constantly improve our product while keeping the initial purchase price and annual maintenance costs low.

Jay Vickers

Managing Partner

Mr. Vickers is responsible for three areas at NovuSolutions: Software Development, Project Management, and Customer Support. He compares these departments to the three legs of a stool;

Only a perfect balance between each area will result in a stable customer experience.

Mr. Vickers has been fascinated with computers since he received his first Vic-20 computer in 1980 as a Christmas gift.  Since that moment, he knew that he wanted a career in technology. In 1991, he graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and quickly noticed that his computer skills were highly coveted. He also noticed that many companies lacked employees who knew how to operate computers.  This prompted Mr. Vickers to start his first company, Productivity Point International (PPI).  The goal at PPI was simple: to help companies become more productive by training their employees on how to use the latest software.

Through his experience at PPI, Mr. Vickers learned that the more computer software improved, the more complicated it became.  He also discovered it was expensive for companies to maintain their software. With this knowledge, Mr. Vickers became determined to start a company that made simple, easy-to-manage software that solved real problems.  Along with the rest of the Management Team, he started NovuSolutions, which develops cost effective software for the underserved markets of governments and education.  The Management Team saw an opportunity to leverage the growing power of web-based software to provide budget- conscious organizations with focused and easy to use software.  Since 2000, NovuSolutions has developed software with an emphasis on making the user experience as simple and functional as possible.

In addition to his full-time efforts at NovuSolutions, Mr. Vickers currently serves on the Citizens Advisory Council for Hillsborough County, Florida and serves as an investor to several local businesses.

His wife of 13 years, Anne, is a small business consultant and an amazing mother to their two children Katie, and Jake.

Mr. Vickers’ favorite quote is by Theodore Roosevelt:

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” — Theodore Roosevelt

Byron Gillin

Director of Sales and Business Development

Mr. Gillin is responsible for building mutually beneficial partnerships between NovuSolutions, its clients and its resellers.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Business Management at the University of Central Florida, Mr. Gillin worked at Productivity Point International, and was responsible for driving new business through building client relationships and consulting. He also specialized in creating training solutions for a wide range of clients including public sector and education.

Mr. Gillin’s favorite quote is by Vince Lombardi:

The harder you work the harder it is to surrender.”
Vince Lombardi

John Kercher

Managing Partner

Mr. Kercher is responsible for the sales and marketing effort for NovuSolutions. At NovuSolutions, the approach is to help customers get the best value for their money. Public sector budgets are always tight, so NovuSolutions always strives to help customers get the best value for their money. Mr. Kercher will advise clients not to buy something if it will not offer them a solid Return on Investment. The sales approach at NovuSolutions can certainly be summed up in one phrase, “Client ROI.”

Mr. Kercher earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Rhode Island. He has worked in several industries, from heavy manufacturing to building products, focusing on sales and marketing, with General Manager responsibilities.

Mr. Kercher began his career in technology in 1995 as a General Manager for Productivity Point International, a technology training firm founded by Jay Vickers. As a General Manager, John re-engineered the sales and delivery team and developed one of the fasting growing groups in the country. It was there that John developed a friendship with Jay Vickers.

Mr. Kercher’s favorite quote is a Biblical verse found in John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” — John 14:27:

Chris Herring

Director of Software Development

Mr. Herring is responsible for developing the software and system architecture, with his main focus being strategic software development. His goal is to ensure that the solutions provided best fits your needs and business objectives.

Mr. Herring views every development problem as a puzzle and enjoys the thrill of finding the perfect solution. He learned this from his 6-year service in the Navy, where he worked in a nuclear power program on the USS Pittsburg submarine. He also taught software courses on base, which led to his passion for teaching, which he implements in his day-to-day work.

After the Navy, Chris found a way to integrate teaching into software development working for Productivity Point, Inc. Now Chris’ abilities are being utilized at NovuSolutions, finding simple answers to a variety of data management problems. He enjoys teaching customers how to solve even the hardest problems and feels rewarded by the opportunity to help other organizations succeed.
