<p>Iowa Central Community College has gone paperless with
NovusAGENDA. On a recent meeting they had two bond issues to deal
with and NovusAGENDA saved them over 5,000 pieces of paper on just
one meeting.</p>

<p><br />
Now that is real cost savings plus a nice impact on our
environment.</p>

<p>Iowa Central Community College was organized in 1966 with a
broad mandate to offer a vast array of educational opportunities to
the residents of its nine-county area. Iowa Central was built on
the firm foundation of three area junior colleges which had been
operating since the 1920s by the local public school systems.</p>

<p>They were Fort Dodge, organized in 1921; Webster City, 1926; and
Eagle Grove, 1928. Iowa Central came into being as a result of the
Area School Act passed by Iowa's 61st General Assembly. The
legislation authorized two or more county school systems to merge
to form an area community college.</p>

<p>Nine counties combined to create Iowa Central: Buena Vista,
Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and
Wright. The resulting Merged Area V has some 28,000 students in 31
public school districts. In 1971, a fourth center was added with
the completion of a new building in Storm Lake. The Storm Lake
Center originally was established to serve 12 public and private
school systems in Buena Vista County as a secondary career
education center. In the ensuing years, the Storm Lake Center has
been expanded so that now it offers the full range of community
college programs.</p>

<p>In 1975, Iowa Central joined with Buena Vista College in Storm
Lake in a cooperative venture whereby students can earn a
bachelor's degree attending evening classes. The students' first
two years are completed at Iowa Central and the final two years at
Buena Vista at the Fort Dodge Center.</p>

<p>Some history on Palmer Township:</p>

<p>For many years the Penn family governed Pennsylvania and were
known as the "proprietors of the land". The descendants of William
Penn sold portions of their land but retained possession of two
large tracts between Bethlehem and Easton. These "proprietaries"
were unsuccessful in keeping settlers from occupying these tracts
and by 1752 the tract, which included the area now Palmer Township,
became entirely occupied. The settlers cleared the land, built
cabins, and tilled the soil.</p>

<p>In 1759 the squatters petitioned Richard Peters, Secretary of
the Province, for permission to continue to live on the "dry lands
about six miles from Easton" and indicated a willingness to pay any
price for the land Peters thought to be "fit and reasonable".
Although their request was denied, they did not move out and other
settlers continued to come in.</p>

<p>Action was finally started to eject the settlers but on June 5,
1795, an agreement was reached whereby the Penns agreed to give the
settlers the deed for their land within the period of 12 months for
the sum of 65 pounds, 10 shillings for each one hundred acres of
land. Originally part of Forks Township, Palmer became an
independent community by court order issued May 5, 1857</p>

<p>The town of Vienna Virginia has a long history beginning in 1754
when Colonel Charles Broadwater, a prominent colonial soldier first
settled here. The railroad reached Vienna in 1858 and that laid the
foundation for real growth in the town.</p>

<p>When the Civil War broke out, Vienna became an alternate camping
ground for the two contending forces. This was a confusing time for
residents. It was hard to tell friend from foe, and the area
changed hands so often that many families moved away for the
duration of the war.</p>

<p>Despite the many changes that have occurred since Vienna became
a town over 100 years ago, it has retained a sense of pride in
community, and its people have worked successfully to preserve many
of the traditions and institutions that give us the feeling of
living in our own "small town."</p>

<p>Despite the small town feel Vienna boasts a big city look with
full meeting automation and public access to information.</p>
